Jay Miller
Chief Operating Officer
Jay Miller was named Vice President and General Manager of the Round Rock Express in September of 1998, personally selected by owners Nolan and Reid Ryan for the position.
Miller was instrumental in assembling the front-office staff of the Express, and led the franchise to a record-setting Inaugural Season. In 2000, the club established a new Double-A home attendance record with 660,110 fans, eclipsing the old attendance mark that stood for 20 years.
For his efforts, Miller was named the Texas League's "Executive of the Year" for the 2000 season - giving him the distinction of earning that honor at three levels of minor league baseball: Single-A, Double-A and Triple-A.
The Express drew 668,792 fans in 2001, and Jay was awarded the Sporting News "Minor League Executive of the Year." The Express once again broke the attendance record in 2002 drawing 670,176 fans and then a fourth time in 2003 with 685,973 fans.
He was again named the "Sporting News" and Texas League Executive of the Year in 2003.
Prior to coming to Round Rock, Miller was General Manager of the Houston Astros' Triple-A affiliate, the New Orleans Zephyrs. While with the Zephyrs, he oversaw the construction of a new $23 million stadium, and led the franchise to record attendance in 1997 and 1998. The Zephyrs' '98 club won the first-ever Triple-A World Series played in Las Vegas.
This 2009 season marks Jay's 28th year in professional baseball. In 1982, he accepted a position as Assistant General Manager for the Eugene (Oregon) Emeralds. He was then named General Manager for the club in Salem, Virginia before being offered a position with the Texas Rangers baseball club.
Jay spent 12 years with the Rangers working in many capacities, including running the club's Florida operations in Port Charlotte. He was the Rangers' Director of Customer Relations prior to joining the New Orleans Zephyrs.
A 1981 graduate of Wheaton College in Illinois, Jay was a four-year letterman in both football and baseball. He earned a Master's Degree in Sports Administration from Western Illinois University.
In 1997, Jay was named to the Wheaton College Baseball Hall of Fame. In 2003, he was named to the East Aurora High School Hall of Fame.
Jay and his wife Joy live in Round Rock with their three children, Amanda, Michelle and Derek.
