Don Sanders

Don A. Sanders is the Founder and Chairman of Sanders Morris Harris, a Houston-based investment firm.
A native of Mexia, Texas, Don graduated from Mexia High School, received his BBA degree from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, and his MBA degree from the University of Texas in Austin.
Don joined one of the nation's largest securities firm, E.F. Hutton & Co. in 1959 as an account executive. He later became Executive Vice President and a member of the company's Board of Directors. In 1987, after 28 years with E. F. Hutton, he resigned to form Sanders Morris Harris, which has become a nationally recognized investment banking and securities firm. SMH manages over $1 billion in funds and is the largest investment bank in the state of Texas.
Don is a leading figure in a variety of civic, corporate and financial enterprises. He is a former owner of the Houston Sports Association and the Houston Astros Baseball Club, as well as a past member of the University of Houston System Board of Regents and Houston Police Pension System.
Don's current board affiliations include the Nolan Ryan Foundation, the Governor's Business Council, the Baylor College of Medicine Committee on Minorities, the DePelchin Children's Center, the Childress Foundation, and the Houston Symphony.
The baseball stadium at Sam Houston State was named for Don on April 28, 2007. Sanders donated $1 million in establishing an endowment fund to enhance the baseball program at SHSU.
